# Uploading/Downloading directory with scp

Is there a way I can upload directories using scp. I’m new to this but have found numerous sources that recommend using -r flag to upload a directory. But for some reason I don’t have permission to do this and end up having to waste time by uploading files individually. Anyone know why this might be the case?

Hello Leo,

Uploading or downloading directories with SCP using the -r flag should work fine.

Can you send the command you run and the error output you get?
