# Pytorch and conda on Lambda Workstation RTX 3090

Jul 22, 2022

Okay thank you so much for everything Mark. I’m definitely interesting in doing a video teleconference b/c you might be right it might take less time.
I did the above to make the default python python3 and it is working:

(venv) senecawolf@tensorbook:~/Desktop/test-project$ deactivate
    senecawolf@…

I’m definitely down to do a google meet. I can pay you through paypal for your time.

senecawolf@tensorbook:~$ ls -l /usr/bin/python\*
    lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 7 Apr 15 2020 /usr/bin/python -> python2
    lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 9 Mar 13 2020 /usr/bin/python2 -> python2.7

Thanks so much!
I don’t know if this is too much to look at, but here is a bit of an interactive session I had just now trying some of the above commands. I find that in my newly fabricated conda environment I don’t have access to the GPU. Same thing in system Python3. Only in Python2 do I have access...

July 2022 after installing [Miniconda as per this link](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Avx_FYdFBcc) I did:

$ conda create -n pytorch python=3.9
    $ conda activate pytorch
    $ conda install pytorch torchvision torchaudio cudatoolkit=11.1 -c pytorch -c nvidia

And it looks like it is working. Is there any sort of test script available that I could run?

Hello, I want to have tree so I can use it at the command line. Should I use apt? apt-get? snap? What is the best practice for keeping one’s [tensorbook](/content/deep-learning/laptops/tensorbook/index.html) in ship shape?

Along the same lines, how can I return my tensorbook to having a properly working lambda stack, and then what is the best …

I finally did sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade && sudo apt-get autoremove and so far things seem to be working fine.
I’m sure I’ve messed some things up & not sure how to fix them.

From browsing these forums it sounds like people have had severe issues after running autoremove! I have been avoiding doing that! Can somebody who knows for certain please chime in? & thank you for your help Cody!

Does anybody have suggestions on how / where to learn Ubuntu?

Hi,
I am trying to get my lambda labs notebook deep learning research computer (laptop) that I bought in 2018 for > $3,000 back in a workable state. I haven’t used it much… although I did use it for a deep learning course I took for a masters degree in computer science awhile back.
Now, because my…

Thanks so much! I really appreciate it. I am having questions now that I’m on Ubuntu 20.04 but I’m thinking I probably need to do a new thread.

I finally did what was on:

but that didn’t fully work so I did what was said here as well:

And then doing sudo do-release-upgrade seems to have worked… now I’m on Ubuntu 20.04… hopefully I still have Lambda Stack (?) and everything works…

It always has complaints about the Brave browser (experimentally removed Chrome to see if I could use a similar process to remove Brave… I could easily remove & reinstall Chrome but have not had success removing Brave).

Here is my output:

Reading cache
    Checking package manager
    Reading package lists... Done
    Building dependency tree
    Reading state information... Done

Hello,
I apologize in advance if this post doesn’t meet the quality standards for inclusion. I did try to find a post asking this question but after spending some time trying to read posts I’m still not sure how to proceed.
I purchased a lambda labs laptop with Ubuntu and lambda stack from Lambda …

How can I get Anaconda setup to work with Lambda Stack? I already have Lambda Stack (its new to me). I want to get back to my ordinary workflow of working from inside conda environments. Thanks!
